«Great Southern Shipping Australia» and the Chinese port operator «Rizhao Port Group» have founded а shipping company for operating the a weekly service connecting the ports of Rizhao, Brisbane, Sydney, Bell Bay, Melbourne, Fremantle.
The partners intend to buy five container vessels which will sail under the Australian flag. In the long term, the fleet is supposed to be increased up to 10 vessels, as well as the frequency of the service will be raised from 1 up to 2 departures per week.
The container turnover of Rizhao port is over then 2,6 million TEU per year. The project of port modernization that is being realized now, will allow to increase a turnover up to 10 million TEU per year. The port is a starting point for two railway routes of the Silk Way from Asia via Northern and Southern Europe to Rotterdam. A new line presents itself as the Silk Way extension from Europe to Australia.
