This topic became one of the most important issues that were discussed within the meeting between Pavlo Klimkin, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, and Oleg Vyshniakov, the Honorary Consul of the State of Israel in Western Ukraine.
Both officials share the same opinion that creation of a free-trade zone between Ukraine and Israel is the matter of great importance. Essential share of Ukrainian export is raw materials (nearly $800 mln per year) but considerable part of technologies are being bought in Israel. According to Mr. Vyshniakov, creation of a free-trade zone will not only contribute in turnover increase of both countries but will also facilitate the attraction of Israeli investments into Ukrainian projects.
One important step in the course of conversance with Israeli business will be a joint economic forum. It is planned to be conducted in the end of October. Being cultural capital of Ukraine and city where Honorary Consulate is located, Lviv was chosen as a venue for the forum. The patronage of Mr. Klimkin shows the high importance of the event. This forum will become good possibility to find partners and investors, acquaint Israelis with Ukraine and its specifics and make sure that Western Ukraine is safe for investments and attractive region from the economic point of view. This is only a small part of issues that will be discussed within Ukraine-Israeli economic forum.
In the end of a meeting officials touch upon the subject of city safety. Israeli system of security and safety is almost perfect. Lviv’s sister town of Rishon LeZion is one of the most safe city in the world. The realization of a project that cost $7 mln. and more than 550 cameras made the city invulnerable for acts of terror and violence. Thievery level almost amounts to nothing. According to the Minister, Ukrainian government is interested in such an experience and creation of the same security systems. Maybe a test project of such unique system will be realized in Lviv.
